GOD- ABBA FATHER!
GOD- ABBA FATHER!
Bible Text: Romans 8:14-17.
Who is a FATHER?
A father is someone who has a CHILD either by birth or adoption. There is a marked difference between genuine FATHER and irresponsible father. A real father takes responsibility for certain needs of the child such as their well-being, security, feeding and all-round growth, protection, and provision. This is why God is regarded as the EVERLASTING FATHER because he doesn’t joke with his role as father, this is why he didn’t spare his only begotten son. In Mat.6:9-13, Our Lord Jesus Christ referred to God as father and taught us to pray in such manner. A CHILD in the biblical context of our bible text refers to all who have been sired by a FATHER.
Who are the “Many Sons”?
"SON" is used as metaphor in this bible verse to refer to those who have become CHILDREN of God by adoption into the family of God through being born again. The have now become “Joint heirs with Christ” of Divine blessings and grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ.
FOUR IMPORTANT ROLES A FATHER PLAYS IN YOUR
LIFE.
1. BIRTHING
No one can be born without a father.... The only one ever born without a biological father is Jesus Christ and he still has a father... That is why in John 3:16 Jesus is called the "ONLY BEGOTTEN SON". All of us here are children of our earthly father and we also do have a spiritual father (those who born again have God as their spiritual father, while those who aren't are the CHILDREN of the devil) you will find this in 1 John 3:10.
Whether Male/Female... in the realm of the spirit there is no gender. John 6:44 even Jesus himself called God his father..
One of the most used sentence of advice or warning in African homes is "Remember
the child of whom you are" Indicating that at every point in time we are ambassadors of our Father. The question today is Whose child are you?. Who birthed you? John 3.1-7
2. GROWTH, NURTURING AND PROVISIONS
FATHERS are know as PROVIDERS for the family, Psalm 23 talks about how God being our shepherd takes care of us, feeding us, and nurturing us as a shepherd will do to sheep of his pasture, Psalm 100:3. JEHOVA JIREH is God's name, HE PROVIDES, that is why Mat.7:9-11 explains the mindset of God towards taking care of us. GOD IS MORE FATHERLY than even our earthly parents. This means that as SONS OF GOD.... He knows our daily needs for growth in any aspect of life and has made provisions for it available. However, every child that will receive anything from their FATHER must be willing to develop a cordial relationship with him (GOD).
3. SECURITY, SAFETY AND PROTECTION
Fathers, take pride in protecting their children because they represent their heritage... The continuation of the lineage. Exo.13:21, Psm121:4, Deut.28:6, John 4:4. God's promise to Abraham was not just time-bound covenant of safety and protection..... It was an eternal one. God, protects and keeps us safe as matter of parental duty than social obligation. There is no security much more secure than that offered by "HE WHO NEITHER SLEEPS NOR SLUMBER". In fact, Those who dwell in his secret place are recorded to always be shielded under his almighty shadow Psalm 91:1-2. As children of God there is not better security, safety and protection than that offered in CHRIST JESUS.... If you combine Proverbs 18:10 and Philippians 2:9 it is clearly spelt out. That name (YESHUA HAMASIACH) is our strong tower and a place of refuge at all times.
4. COVENANT INHERITANCE
This is the most important aspect of fatherhood to any human being. It is the duty of fathers to bequeath inheritance to their children. Earthly fathers can give inheritances like houses, land etc and God our father gives far better inheritance. While earthly inheritance may be disputed and debated the inheritance of God to his children is covenanted. Hence, nothing can happen to take debate, dispute or take away such inheritance. This is what was being explained in Romans 8:36-39. Because our earthly fathers are limited in time, they can only give time bound inheritances. But God gives inheritance in both TIME and ETERNITY. This is why DIVINE INHERITANCE is not only about earthly treasures but HEAVENLY treasures too. While children of God inherit God's covenant inheritance, those who are not in Born Again cannot lay claim to this inheritance. "IT IS FOR CHILDREN".
